In a surprise visit early Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Adampur air base near Jalandhar to meet Indian Air Force personnel who played a critical role during Operation Sindoor. The base was central to India's air defence operations following the retaliatory strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir on May 7.
Landing at 6:15 am, PM Modi spent nearly 50 minutes at the station, interacting with IAF officers and soldiers. He was briefed on the logistics, strategy, and challenges of the ongoing defence operations. The visit, kept confidential even from local civil and police administration, was aimed at directly acknowledging the forces’ contributions and raising their morale.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Modi wrote, “It was a very special experience to be with those who epitomise courage, determination and fearlessness. India is eternally grateful to our armed forces for everything they do for our nation.”
Adampur air base has been in the crosshairs of Pakistani drone and missile strikes in recent days. It was one of the key targets alongside Pathankot, Bathinda, and Udhampur air bases. On May 9, debris from a Pakistani projectile injured a labourer in Kanganiwal village near Jalandhar. Another explosive device was later recovered and defused in a nearby godown close to the Adampur base.
The Prime Minister’s visit came just hours after his national address on Operation Sindoor, during which he reaffirmed India's resolve to act against terrorism and warned Pakistan that any further misadventures would be met with decisive force.
